Rahul Gandhi returns to the English Press

It's been a while since Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met the English press -- as long as nine years ago, when, on the eve of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he gave an interview to Arnab Goswami, then with 'Times Now'. Just months prior to that Rahul had walked into the Press Club of India in New Delhi and torn up an ordinance that the Manmohan Singh government had been plotting -- to the complete surprise of Dr Manmohan Singh himself, of course.

So his opinion piece in the 'Indian Express' Sunday, called 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram,' was interesting to say the least -- not just because of the headline, which may have evoked memories of a buxom Zeenat Aman in a wet piece of cloth in the minds of ageing journalists about a 1980s movie by the same name, but because Rahul tweeted both in Hindi & English a few paragraphs under the same headline -- he didn't tag the 'Indian Express' however on this tweet.

Nor did the newspaper claim the piece was `exclusive', although a quick read of the national dailies revealed nothing. Is Rahul warming to the Angrezi media? Remember that during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he didn't give any interviews to major English newspapers or TV news channels in either Hindi and English. Will we be seeing more media engagement by him? Watch this space.
